During the inauguration of the Vizhinjam Port, VD Satheesan, the opposition leader, credited former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for the realization of the Vizhinjam port project, acknowledging his efforts to overcome allegations of piracy and corruption. However, he also criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi during the event. Satheesan emphasized the importance of responsible development, highlighting that as progress occurs, people should not be forced into slums or substandard living conditions. He urged for comprehensive rehabilitation measures to be in place to ensure the well-being of all affected individuals. He attributed the successful establishment of Vizhinjam to the leadership of the government led by Oommen Chandy, which obtained all the necessary permissions before the completion of their term. He underscored the need to balance development while safeguarding the interests of the people.
A significant milestone was reached as the Shenhua 15 ship, equipped with three cranes vital for the port operations, docked at Vizhinjam after its journey from the Mundra coast of Gujarat. Vizhinjam Port holds immense potential as a pivotal commercial gateway and a boost to the tourism sector. It has the potential to transform Thiruvananthapuram into India’s maritime tourist hub.The event was marked by the arrival of the Chinese ship Shenhua 15 at Vizhinjam, and a team led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan flagged in and received the ship. The Chief Minister expressed confidence in Kerala’s capabilities, stating that nothing is beyond reach for the state. He commended the efficient navigation of the ship to Vizhinjam despite the hurdles, affirming its resilience to face any challenges.”
