With Kantara, Rishab Shetty’s most recent film, he has quite literally struck gold. The Kannada movie, which debuted on September 30 in theatres around the world, has dominated the box office in nearly all of these areas. According to industry insiders, the movie received a better reception in its first 10 days than even KGF: Chapter 1, Robert, or Vikrant Rona, but the box office receipts do not reflect this because Kantara did not raise ticket prices. The increased attendance has contributed to record collections, and nearly every performance is still selling out.
Although Hombale Films has not yet made Kantara’s box office receipts public, sources who have been following the industry say that it is slowly approaching the Rs 100 crore threshold in the domestic market alone. There are rumors that it has already surpassed KGF: Chapter 1 and James in the local market and has joined the 100-crore club with its Karnataka region collections. In its existence, KGF 1 reportedly earned between Rs 135 and Rs 150 crore in India. Kantara has made approximately Rs 100 crore at the box office in less than two weeks. If it keeps on its current pace, the movie will surpass Roberrt, James, and KGF1. The key distinction, according to industry insiders, is that Kantara has only been released in Kannada, whereas all of the previous commercial successes have had pan-India releases. They consider Kantara’s accomplishments to be absolutely amazing for a Kannada cinema.
The Kannada film Kantara has already achieved the highest box office results in both the USA and north India. It remains to be seen what other records the “divine” hit will break now that the Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam versions are set to debut starting tomorrow and continuing over the next few days.
