Two big films starring two top Tollywood stars hit theatres on Sankranthi 2023 and are now competing at the box office in Telugu states. Despite mixed reviews for their content and execution, both films continue to reign supreme. Waltair Veerayya, Chiranjeevi’s much-anticipated KS Ravindra film, was released on January 13 around the world and reportedly grossed more than Rs 5 crore in Nizam alone. In the United States, the multi-starrer action comedy film, which also stars Ravi Teja, has already earned more than $1 million.
Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya grossed significantly less than Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy on its first day of release, raising questions about Chiranjeevi’s box-office appeal. Many questioned whether the veteran star had lost his ability to sell tickets.
Furthermore, industry insiders predicted that Balakrishna’s film would top the $1 million mark before Chiranjeevi’s. But after two days, everything changed dramatically. Waltair Veerayya is almost at break even after the first weekend’s collections. Balakrishna’s film, on the other hand, will only cross the $1 million mark on Sunday. Waltair Veerayya had earned $1.38 million by the end of Saturday.
It was expected to reach $1.5 million by Sunday (break-even point). To put it another way, Waltair Veerayya was a huge success. It received a whopping $398k on Saturday. Veera Simha Reddy has shown signs of deterioration following his record-breaking premiere numbers. So far, it has grossed $934,000 at the US box office.
Veera Simha Reddy has Shruti Haasan in the lead role. It is an action drama film written and directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers.
