Voda-Idea paid Rs 1,367 crore to the government for the March quarter

Telecom company Vodafone Idea has paid around Rs 1,367 crore to the government under the license fee and spectrum usage charge (SUC) item for the March quarter. Sources said that the Department of Telecommunications received this amount this week. Other operators had already made their payments. A Voda-Idea spokesperson declined to say anything about the latest payment or funding for it.

According to sources, Reliance Jio and Bhartiya Airtel have paid Rs 1,600 crore and Rs 1,440 crore for the above quarterly license fee and SUC respectively. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), an association of telecom companies, approached the Department of Telecommunications last month citing the situation arising out of the corona virus epidemic and urging companies to allow the fourth quarterly statutory payment by 30 April 2020. did.

As a rule, the companies were to pay the license fee and spectrum usage charges (revenue share) by 25 March on the basis of projected revenue for the fourth quarter of 2019-20. It is noteworthy that the telecom industry is facing a backlog of Rs 1.69 lakh crore under Adjusted Gross Income (AGR) (previous statutory arrears).
