On Friday, October 28, the Kozhikode Sessions Court issued an order that has since become an important turning point in the Kantara plagiarism controversy. According to reports, the court has ordered the producers of the movie Kantara to stop playing the song “Varaha Roopam” in theatres. After receiving a lawsuit for plagiarism from the well-known Malayalam band Thaikkudam Bridge, the Kozhikode Sessions Court imposed an order prohibiting the creators from playing the song “Varaha Roopam.” Additionally, none of the big streaming services will play the music.
The well-known music group had previously stated that they will file a lawsuit against the Kantara creative team for plagiarising their well-known song, “Navarasa.” Thaikkudam Bridge announced on its official social media accounts that an injunction order had been granted by the Kozhikode sessions prohibiting the screening of “Varaha Roopam” in theatres and on streaming services due to copyright infringement.”The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kozhikode has injuncted the producer, director, music composer, Amazon, YouTube, Spotify, Wynk Music, Jiosavan, and others from playing the song Varaaha Roopam in the film Kantara without the permission of Thaikudam Bridge,” reads the band’s post.
For those who are unaware, Kantara landed in trouble after Thaikkudam Bridge claimed that the song “Varaha Roopam” had been lifted verbatim from the well-known song “Navarasa.” Many people in the movie business and music fans supported Thaikkudam Bridge on social media, stating their support for the renowned independent band’s claims. Thaikkudam Bridge refused to accept the Kantara creators’ explanation that the two songs are identical because they are based on the same raga. The most recent developments demonstrate the music group’s will to pursue legal action.
One of the biggest triumphs in recent Indian cinema is the film, which was written and directed by Rishab Shetty and in which he also stars as the main character. The film is available in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
