V. P. Khalid died at 71 because of heart attack

Khalid was an active member of professional drama troupes. He entered the big screen through Periyar helmed by P. J. Antony in 1973 and later acted in many motion pictures like Eanippadikal and Ponnapuram Kotta. Veteran theater and film actor V. P. Khalid, 71, died at Vaikom in Kottayam on Friday. The senior actor reportedly suffered a heart attack this morning.

A resident of Chullikkal in Fort Kochi, he was found unconscious in the washroom of a film shooting location at Vaikom in the morning. He was soon taken to a hospital, where he was announced brought dead. The body was taken to the Government Medical College in Kottayam for post-mortem, according to the hospital officers.

Recently, he was acting in a film directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and featuring entertainer Tovino Thomas. Khalid is survived by his children Shyju Khalid, Jimshi Khalid, and Khalid Rahman who are dynamic in the Malayalam film industry.

Khalid touched off his energy for theater at 16 years old when he began acting in show contests. He was an active member of proficient show companies including Cochin Sanathana, and Alleppey Theaters, and had acted in plays like Ezhunallathu and Dracaula Ancham Thirumurivu. He entered the big screen through Periyar directed by P. J. Antony in 1973. He has also acted in movies like Enipanikkal and Ponnapuram Kotta.

Khalid was likewise famous as a singer and artist in his initial vocation. He was famous among the TV crowd as ‘Sumeshettan’ in the well-known Marimayam series being shown in Mazhavil Manorama.
