UNSC: India elected for the eighth time as a temporary member

India was on Wednesday elected for the eighth time as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Meanwhile, after this victory, India has become a temporary member of the UN Security Council for the year 2021-22. The 193-member UN General Assembly held elections for its 75th session, including the President, the temporary members of the Security Council, and the members of the Economic and Social Council.

India was on Wednesday elected for the eighth time as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Meanwhile, after this victory, India has become a temporary member of the UN Security Council for the year 2021-22. The 193-member UN General Assembly held elections for its 75th session, including the President, the temporary members of the Security Council, and the members of the Economic and Social Council. Apart from India, Ireland, Mexico and Norway have also been included in the Security Council.

TS Thirumurthy, India’s representative to the United Nations, reacted after the victory. He said India would continue to lead and give a new direction to a better multilateral system. India got 184 votes out of 192. “I am happy that India has been elected as a temporary member of the United Nations for the year 2021-22. We all got great support. We also respect the trust that the members of the United Nations have shown, “he said.

“India’s election to the Security Council strengthens the vision and global leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mainly during the Corona crisis. India has become a member of the Security Council at a crucial time and we are confident that during and after Kovid, India will continue to lead and give a new direction to a good multilateral system, ”Tirumurthy said.
