Tovino Thomas starrer Dear Friend will have an OTT release

Minnal Murali star Tovino Thomas has back-to-back releases on Netflix. Not long after the OTT stage reported that it will be streaming the actor’s most recent theatrical release Vaashi, we now know that Netflix will also drop his mystery thriller film Dear Friend in July.

The Dear Friend, which is helmed by Vineeth Kumar, hit theaters on June 10, seven days before Vaashi’s release. The film rotates around a group of friends- played by Tovino, Darshana Rajendran, Basil Joseph, Arjun Radhakrishnan, Arjun Lal, and Sanchana Natarajan – who are situated in Bengaluru. How an occurrence that stems from one of them disappearing prompts the strain in their friendship with one another structure the plot of the film, which is written by Suhas, Sharfu, and Arjun Lal.

The film was shot in 2020, just after Tovino and Basil had finished shooting Minnal Murali. Bengaluru and Mumbai were its major areas, with the group likewise going for a couple of days in Kochi. The movie had won praise from critics for being a slow-burn thriller about new-age friendships. However, Dear Friend didn’t do well in theatres. Dear friend is produced by Samir Thahir, Shyju Khalid, and Ashiq Usman,

In an interview with a news channel, Tovino had said that the film was made without underestimating the intelligence of its potential crowds. “I believe it’s a movie that doesn’t follow the usual template. There’s an element of experiment,” said the actor. “It’s about an incident that happens between the friends and how that leads to the unraveling of many secrets that the others weren’t aware of. It’s made as an emotional drama and that’s my favorite genre.”

Dear Friend will release on Netflix on July 10. This will be trailed by Tovino and Keerthy Suresh’s Vaashi, which is a family cum court show, precisely seven days after on July 17.
