Tollywood director Sagar dies at 70

Veteran Telugu movie director Sagar alias Vidya Sagar Reddy (70) has passed away after a protracted illness. He was said to have been ill for quite some time before passing away this morning at his Chennai home. His real name is Vidya Sagar Reddy. Veteran Telugu film director Sagar aka Vidya Sagar Reddy (70) died after a long illness. He claimed to have been sick for a long time before passing away today morning at his residence in Chennai.

In 1983, he began his film career as a director with ‘Rakasi Loya,’ a film starring Naresh and Vijaya Shanti. Later, he directed other major hit films starring prominent Telugu actors of the time, like ‘Amma Donga,’ ‘Khaidi Brothers,’ ‘Stuwartpuram Dongalu,’ ‘Rama Sakkanodu,’ ‘Action no.1’, ‘Anveshana,’ ‘Oosi Naa Maradala,’ ‘Daaku,’ and others.

Several of Tollywood’s current generation filmmakers, including Srinu Vaitla, V.V.Vinayak, Ravi Kumar Chowdary, and G. Nageswara Reddy, are claimed to have worked under him before rising to prominence.

Sagar recently trended on YouTube for his conversations with private news networks regarding the heroes, actresses, and films he directed. He discussed his interactions with Soundarya, Amani, Heera, Nagma, Jayachitra, and Indraja, among others.’He was seventy years old. He is said to have been born in Guntur in 1952 and worked as a film editor and assistant director for many Telugu films before getting his hands on the MegaPhone in 1983.

His 1991 film ‘Stuvartpuram Dongalu’ is immensely popular, and many Tollywood celebrities are mourning his passing. His final rites are expected to be done today evening in Chennai. The late filmmaker Sagar was also the president of the Telugu Directors Association for three terms.
