Nivin Pauly-Rajeev Ravi team-up released the lyrical video of Port. Released by ‘Kapal Patt’. Anwar Ali’s lyrics are sung by Shahbaz Aman. Shahbaz Aman himself composed the melody. Directed by Rajeev Ravi, the film has been screened by Listyn Stephen. The theme of the film is the Chapa system of division of labor that existed in Kochi until 1962 and the workers’ struggle to end it. Nivin Pauly will play the lead role of Mattancheri Moitu in the film. Joju George, Indrajith Sukumaran, Nimisha Sajayan, Poornima Indrajith, Arjun Ashokan, Darshana Rajendran, Sudev Nair, Manikanthan Achari, Senthil Krishna, Santosh Keezhatoor, and others have played the main characters in the film.
The story begins in the 1920s when the new Kochi port was being built. During this time, many people from different parts of the country gather in front of the offices of labor contractors in search of work. Workers throng there for the metal tokens thrown from the office by contractors and their shindigs.
The story then moves into the 1940s and 50s, when the overgrown Kochi port becomes the breeding ground of a mafia consisting of contractors, capitalists, and union leaders who side with them. A time when workers have to fight for their right to work and live with dignity. The port tells the story of the survival of a family and a nation going through this tumultuous period.
