Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court has directed the newly formed committee to take up the matter of opening the B storey of the Padmanabha Swamy temple. B The Supreme Court has not taken a clear decision on the matter of opening the vault. The Supreme Court has made it clear that non-Hindus should not be included in the formation of the committee.

An ad hoc committee chaired by a district judge should continue to govern the temple for the time being. Then a new governing body will have to be elected, consisting of a representative of the royal family and a representative of the state government. This committee decides on matters including the B store.

The apex court allowed the royal family’s appeal against the High Court ruling, saying it did not invalidate the royal family’s rights to the temple. The Supreme Court has said that the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple will remain a public temple but the royal family has a right to run it. The Supreme Court has ordered that the temple administration be handed over to the new governing body.
