Nitin Gadkari is set to recommend a 10% increase in GST for diesel vehicles and advocate for the imposition of a 10% pollution tax. This proposal is aimed at curbing the usage of diesel vehicles and promoting a cleaner environment. Consequently, the share prices of diesel vehicle manufacturing companies have witnessed a decline. The formal proposal will be submitted to the Finance Minister later today.During a public event in Delhi, Gadkari articulated this move as a vital step in combating pollution and facilitating the greater adoption of electric vehicles across Indian roads. He emphasized the hazards associated with diesel as a fuel and underscored the nation’s aspiration for a swift transition away from it.
Gadkari further called upon automobile manufacturers to proactively take the lead in reducing the production and usage of diesel vehicles. He warned that, failing this, the government would resort to tax increases as a measure to curtail the sale of diesel vehicles.”
