Telugu Film Producers Council’s new amendments

The Telugu Film Producers’ Council recently dropped a bomb when they revealed that only straight Telugu films will be permitted to release for Sankranthi and Dasara, as was agreed on November 12.

They issued a statement outlining the situation, even citing comments producer Dil Raju made in 2019 regarding dubbed movies undercutting Telugu movies during the holiday season. The council made its position clear, stating that they have now decided to give regional films first preference. Here is their complete statement:

“Keeping in view the increased cost of production of Telugu films, the welfare of producers and to save the Telugu film industry, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has in its Emergency Meeting held on 08.12.2019 passed a resolution that ‘Only Telugu straight Films should be given preference during the festivals of Sankaranthi and Dassera’.

Sri Dil Raju, a renowned producer and the current vice-president of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, categorically stated in the media in the year 2019 that how can we give theatres to dubbed Telugu movies during the festivals and that the first preference shall be given to straight Telugu movies for screening in theatres and the remaining will be given to dubbed Telugu movies during festivals. The Telugu Film Producers Council, therefore, demands that the exhibitors consistently carry out the following decision:‘Only Telugu straight Films should be given preference during the festivals of Sankranthi and Dassera for screening in theatres and the remaining may be given to dubbed Telugu movies’.”

Moviegoers are unsure if Vamshi Paidipally’s Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Varisu, also known as Varasudu in Telugu, will be permitted to release in the Telugu states, while Om Raut’s Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan starrer Adipurush has dropped out of the running and is no longer a topic of conversation. Many people are unsure whether the Dil Raju-produced movie qualifies as a Telugu production. According to the claim, H Vinoth’s Thunivu, starring Ajith and Manju Warrier, may not even see a release here.

In addition to Bobby’s Waltair Veeraya, which stars Chiranjeevi, Ravi Teja, and Shruti Haasan, Gopichand Malineni’s Veera Simha Reddy, starring Balakrishna and Shruti Haasan, also qualifies for Sankranthi 2023.
