Telugu cinema shooting will halt from August 1

After much deliberation, Telugu cinema makers have agreed to halt production of Tollywood films on August 1st until further resolution of the concerns. In an effort to “restructure the business,” the Producers Guild made this choice since production expenses have multiplied while box office receipts have decreased significantly.

The press note read, “Post-Pandemic with the changing revenue situations and increasing costs, it has become important for producers to discuss all the issues we are facing as a community of filmmakers. It is our responsibility to better our ecosystem and ensure that we are releasing our films in a healthy environment. In this regard, all produce members of the Guild have voluntarily decided to withhold shootings from August 1st 2022 to sit in discussions until we find workable resolutions.”

There have been suggestions about pausing the filming of Telugu movies for a week. Popular producer Dil Raju, however, spoke up and downplayed the shooting delay, saying that OTT releases would proceed as planned. In order to prevent losing money, the producers have also agreed that they will only release any new movies on OTT platforms 10 weeks after their theatrical premiere.

It should be mentioned that, following the COVID-19 lockdown, fewer people are visiting theatres to watch movies due to the high cost of admission. The Producers Council also determined that the cost of the tickets should be affordable for the general public. In general theatres, it has been suggested that ticket costs be reduced from Rs 100 to Rs 70. Additionally, plans have been made for the multiplex to reduce prices from Rs 150 to Rs 120, inclusive of GST. Soon, more information will be released.
