Renowned comedian ‘Vadivel Balaji’, a performer who rose to fame for his roles on entertainment television shows breathed his last at a government hospital in Chennai, on Thursday. He had been hospitalized about two weeks ago after he had suffered a heart attack. He was aged 45, is survived by his wife and a son and daughter. And Balaji passed away due to heart attack at the Government hospital in Chennai on Thursday. The actor was known for his mimicry and imitating the body language of famous comedian Vadivelu.
While the comedian was apparently paralyzed following the heart attack and had been under treatment for the past 15 days. Initially, Balaji was admitted to a private hospital in the city following a heart attack and he was subsequently shifted to another private hospital after his condition deteriorated and led to paralysis. Unable to pay for this treatment, it is said that his family had to move him to a government hospital in the city. Some reports indicate that his family faced a severe financial crunch during the lockdown.
Reportedly, the actor was shifted to a couple of other hospitals as the family was unable to manage the expenses and he was admitted to a Government hospital this morning where he breathed his last. Balaji has acted in films like Pandhayam, Sutta Pazham Sudatha Pazham, Kadhal Panchayathu, Karpanai, and Yaaruda Mahesh. Until a couple of weeks ago, he was shooting for Mr & Mrs. Chinnathirai 2 and had apparently got eliminated as well from the show.
He first rose to fame through Vijay TV’s Kalaka Povadhu Yaaru and was a part of Vijay TV’s comedy team. He acted in a few movies too and the roles were similar to what Vadivelu would do in his movies. Besides acting in a few Tamil films, he was fondly known for his perfect imitation of veteran comedian Vadivelu, who is a household name in Tamil Nadu. This was why he earned that prefix to his name.
Several actors from the Tamil film fraternity and fans shared their grief after having learned of his demise. They shared their fond memories with him on social media. Actor Dhanush said he was “deeply saddened and disturbed by the sudden demise of great talent, Vadivel Balaji. “May his soul rest in peace,” he tweeted.
