The article is in Malayalam and it discusses why Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav wore a jersey with the name of another player, Sanju Samson, during a match against West Indies. The article mentions that fans were disappointed when Sanju Samson was not included in the playing eleven for the first One Day International (ODI) against West Indies. Ishan Kishan was chosen as the wicketkeeper for the team, which led to Samson being benched. The selectors and head coach Rahul Dravid seemed to favor Ishan over Samson.
Even though Samson was not in the playing eleven, his jersey was seen on the field. Suryakumar Yadav, a middle-order batsman for India, wore Samson’s jersey during the match. He wore the jersey with ‘Sanju’ written on it while fielding and later while batting. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) clarified why Suryakumar wore Samson’s jersey. Suryakumar did not receive a jersey of the correct size, which led him to borrow Samson’s jersey. The BCCI reports that Suryakumar had informed the team management about the size issue of his jersey before the match and had participated in the photoshoot wearing the ill-fitted jersey. He received a medium-sized jersey on the match day, but he actually needed a large one. Therefore, he had to borrow Samson’s jersey.
The BCCI also mentioned that Suryakumar would receive his correctly sized-jersey only after the second ODI. Therefore, he would have to wear Samson’s jersey for the second ODI as well. According to ICC rules, players cannot play with the name on the back of the jersey covered. That’s why Suryakumar didn’t attempt to cover the name ‘Samson’ written on the jersey with a sticker.
