It is the first time in Malayalam that a movie has reached the online platform before its release. The new move comes amid the closure of theaters following the Kovid crisis. Jayasurya-starrer ‘Sufi Sujatha’ will be released on Amazon Prem.
This is the first time such a digital release is going to be launched in Malayalam. Amazon Prime confirmed this. Directed by debutant Naranipuzha Shanavas, the movie is produced by Vijay Babu under the banner of Friday Film House. Aditi Rao Haidari is the heroine. Jayasuriya has announced that the film will be released on Amazon Prime. The film is yet to be released.
Producer Vijay Babu says there is no other way to overcome the current financial crisis. There is uncertainty as to when the theaters will open. “This is why we have decided to release the film through the online platform and have discussed it with the producers,” he said.
Meanwhile, when a movie is released for the first time in Malayalam on the online platform, the reaction of the theater owners will be noticeable. Theater owners are likely to oppose the online release system.There was a big controversy in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil filmmakers of Tamil Nadu have been faced with the decision by announcing that no Suriya-assisted film will be released in theaters. The makers also came out in support of Surya.
