Big egos, which are common in the Malayalam film industry, were on full display at the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) closing ceremony when none other than Ranjith, Chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the event’s organizer, criticized superstar Mammootty’s most recent movie.
The multifaceted Ranjith, who is also a very well-known cinema figure, was miffed when he was jeered by several audience members, primarily young people when his name was announced to speak at the IFFK’s closing ceremony. Ranjith, who was unable to contain his rage, added that one would have to wait to see how many people would show up to see Mammootty’s movie when it is released in theatres.
Ranjith was upset because he had been attacked when Mammootty’s newest movie, “Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam,” debuted at the IFFK, which ended on Friday.
Even though all the films are open to those who reserve their seats in advance for a specific film, a sizable crowd had formed, and many of those who had reserved in advance had trouble getting a seat, leading to the accusation that individuals who had not made reservations were able to enter.
The police arrived and had to use force against the demonstrators after people who had made reservations objected. In the end, three demonstrators were detained, numerous more had complaints filed against them, and Ranjith was widely criticized as a result.
When he was booed off stage by the audience on Friday night, this rage came to the surface.
On Saturday, though, a calmer Ranjith made an effort to make changes. He claimed that the organizers had never requested that the police take any action and added that it is only natural for there to be a large audience for good films.
