Railway Board Significantly Raises Financial Aid for Train Accident Victims” In a major move, the Railway Board has substantially increased financial assistance for victims of train accidents. The assistance for both serious and minor injuries has been amplified tenfold, marking a substantial revision since 2012 and 2013. A circular issued on September 18 outlined the revised relief assistance to be granted to the dependents of those affected by train accidents and other untoward incidents.
The financial aid for accidental deaths has been augmented from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh. For severely injured individuals, the assistance has surged from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh, and for those with minor injuries, it has been raised from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000. This enhanced financial aid extends to passengers involved in accidents at level crossing gates for which the railways bear responsibility. However, no relief will be provided to individuals involved in accidents at unmanned level crossings, trespassers, or those electrocuted by overhead devices. This revision is a significant provision under the Railways Act, 1989.
