Prominent Author And Scholar Prof. CR Omanakuttan Has Passed Away

Renowned writer and esteemed educator, Prof. CR Omanakuttan, aged 80, has passed away. He suffered a fatal heart attack while being treated at a private hospital in Kochi. Prof. Omanakuttan, known for his contributions as a teacher at Maharaja’s College, was also a recipient of the prestigious Kerala Sahitya Akademi award. He was the son of acclaimed film director Amalneerad.One of his notable literary achievements was receiving the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his comic masterpiece titled ‘Sribhuthanathavilasam Nair Hotel.’ Over the course of two decades, he penned a column named ‘Nadukulam’ in the publication ‘Desabhimani.’ Some of his significant works include ‘Omanakatha,’ ‘Ezhashivan and Varikunthum,’ ‘Abhinavasakunthalam,’ ‘Savamtheenikal,’ ‘Kalpad,’ ‘Translations,’ ‘Father Dergius,’ ‘Diary of Madman,’ ‘Carmila,’ and ‘Thanneer Thanneer.’ He was born in Kottayam to parents Pennamma and Raghavan.

Prof. Omanakuttan pursued his education at Kottayam Nair Samajam High School, CMS College, Kollam S.N. College, and Changanassery S.B. College. With a journalistic background, he contributed to renowned publications like Cinema Magazine, Prabhatham, and Granthalokam. Additionally, he served in the Public Relations Department of the Government of Kerala for over four years and later ventured into teaching Malayalam in government colleges. Notably, he held a teaching position at Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam.
