Prithviraj’s Kaduva gets a new release date

After a week of uncertainty over litigation and the censor protocol, the makers of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Vivek Oberoi’s ‘mass’ action film Kaduva have announced its release date.

The film, which was at first set to hit venues overall on June 30, had conceded its release date to July 7. In any case, there was no official affirmation in regards to this, till July 5 when the CBFC had cleared the film with a U/A confirmation and bookings opened.

Prithviraj took to his virtual entertainment page to share the news on Tuesday. He was sorry for keeping the crowd pausing and being late to open the bookings, referring to the explanation as lawful systems needed to follow through to its logical end. The film went into trouble after Jose Kuruvinakunnel had filed a complaint against the creators alleging that Kaduva’s lead character Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan is based on his true story and they had not acquired rights for the film. He had filed a defamation case, which the courts had twice ruled in the favor of the film’s scriptwriter Jinu V Abraham.

Before the film went on floors, Jinu had likewise claimed the creators of Suresh Gopi’s Ottakomban of copyright infringement. The court had likewise managed this for Jinu, after which the group had begun filming.

Kaduva, which likewise has Vivek Oberoi, Samyuktha Menon, and Arjun Ashokan in lead roles, is helmed by Shaji Kailas, who is getting back to Malayalam after a gap of very nearly eight years with the film. The film revolves around the fight between Kuruvachan, who is a wealthy rubber planter, and Joseph Chandy, a top police officer. Kaduva is created by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, and will be released in five dialects – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi – on July 7.
