If you have eaten a non-veg Supreme Regular Pizza of Dominos or Chicken Supreme Personal Pizza of Pizza Hut, then your whole day’s quota of salt is complete. After this, if you are taking salt in food, then it is playing with health. This claim has been made by CSE (Center for Science and Environment). CSE released its lab report saying that junk food has been found to have significantly higher salt and fat than the proposed limit.
According to CSE, a person needs 2000 kcal throughout the day, which should be more than 5 grams of salt, 60 grams of fat, 300 grams of carbohydrates and just 2.2 grams of trans fat. According to him, chips, noodles, pizza, burgers, and namkeen have the highest salt content. CSE began work on this report in July. For which samples of 33 junk foods were taken. In which 19 samples of various brand chips, snacks, noodles, soups, burgers, fries, fried chicken, pizza, sandwiches were taken. All these samples were taken from food chains and retail stores and markets in Delhi.
‘Chips, noodles, pizzas, burgers and namkeen have twice the amount of salt’
Mrinal Malik, head of CSE Lab, said that heart disease is increasing the most due to transfat. But the study has revealed that companies in all samples have given incorrect information about Transfat in their products. It should not be allowed. Food regulator FSSAI has changed the approved quantity of salt and fat in packaged food of 100 grams. If the salt and fat exceed this limit, the packet will remain red label. Having a red label will make it clear about children’s food items.
According to CSE, one gram of salt was found in a 30 gram packet of two yum multigrain chips. This is twice the set standards for snacks. Similarly, salt in haldiram nutcrackers, instant noodles and soups (Maggi and nor) was also found to be significantly higher. Samples of burgers (McDonald’s and Burger King), pizza (Dominos and Pizza Hut) and sandwiches (Subway) also found significantly higher quantities.
