Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that the doors of all Sainik Schools in the country will now be opened for girls as well. At present 33 Sainik Schools are being run in the country. The Prime Minister, in his Independence Day speech on Sunday, said that two and a half years ago, the first experiment for girls’ admission in Sainik Schools was conducted in Mizoram. He said, “The government has now decided that all the Sainik Schools in the country will be opened for the daughters of the country as well.
Sainik Schools are run by the Sainik Schools Society which comes under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. The aim of establishing Sainik Schools was to prepare students for entry into the Indian Armed Forces from an early age.
