Officials said that age, marks in subjects, and wrong answers are taken into consideration in the tie-breaker policy. He told that Shoaib and Akanksha got equal marks. Hence the ranking was decided on the basis of age. Singh has scored 100 percent marks in this exam along with Shoaib Aftab of Odisha but due to being young under the tie-breaking policy of the National Examinations Agency (NTA) (the system of fixing seniority on equal marks), he got the second rank. The official said that having equal marks is first compared to marks in chemistry and then biology. If both the subjects have the same marks then the wrong answer is considered in the exam. Even if there is no decision here, age is made the basis.

He said that the same policy was used to determine the ranking of Tummala Snikitha (Telangana), Vineet Sharma (Rajasthan), Amarisha Khaitan (Haryana), and Gutthi Chaitanya Sindhu (Andhra Pradesh), who got 715 out of 720 and tie. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth rankings have been provided respectively through the breaker.
