The 30-feet bronze statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju was revealed by PM Modi today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday uncovered a statue of unbelievable political revolutionary Alluri Sitarama Raju in Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister is in the state to go to his 125th birth anniversary festivities.

Alluri Sitarama Raju was born on July 4, 1897, and is remembered for his fight against the British to protect the interests of the tribal communities in the Eastern Ghats areas. Alluri Sitarama Raju led the Rampa rebellion. The rebellion was launched in 1922. He is referred to as “Manyam Veerudu” (Hero of the Jungles) by the local people.

Alluri Sitarama Arjun had a huge knowledge of astrology and medicine, according to the locals. In a paper, Dr. Murali Atury, a professor of History at the University of Hyderabad, said that Raju chose to become a ‘sanyasi’ at the age of 18.

Alluri Sitarama Raju’s birthplace is Pandrangi, in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district. The central government has also permission for the construction of the Alluri Dhyana Mandir at Mogallu with a statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju in a meditation pose, depicting the life story of the freedom fighter.
