More than 32,000 posts of teachers and principals are lying vacant in government, aided primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in Gujarat.The assembly was informed about this on Wednesday.Responding to several questions raised by Congress MLAs during Question Hour regarding the education scenario, Education Minister Kuber Deendor informed the Assembly that by December 2022, government, as well as government-aided Gujarati and English medium schools across the state, will have teachers. 29,122 posts and 3,552 posts of principals are vacant.
In the latest analysis of data, it has been told that out of 32,674 vacant posts, 20,678 posts are vacant in government schools while 11,996 posts of teachers and principals are vacant in aided schools. A total of more than 17,500 posts of government primary teachers are vacant.Kutch district alone has 1,507 vacancies, followed by 1,152 in tribal-dominated Dahod, 869 in Banaskantha, 724 in Rajkot and 692 in Mahisagar district.
The data also revealed that 14 of Gujarat’s 33 districts do not have a single government English medium school and not a single district has a government-run English medium secondary school for classes 9 and 10. Similarly, there is no state government English medium higher secondary school for classes 11 and 12, while 31 districts do not have a single aided English medium primary school.
