Hombale Films, the producers of KGF and Kantara, are looking to expand their horizons in the film industry next year. The prestigious production house, which has already made inroads into Malayalam cinema with Fahadh Faasil’s Dhoomam and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Tyson, is said to have approached superstar Mohanlal about a project.

There have been rumours that officials from the production house have already met with the Drishyam superstar. However, it is unclear whether it is for a new Malayalam film, a co-production with Prithviraj Productions or Aashirvad Cinemas, or a pan-Indian multi-starrer starring Mohanlal. All three scenarios have been proposed.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal has a busy 2023 planned, beginning with Lijo Jose Pellissery’s big-budget venture Malaikottai Vaaliban, in which Danish Sait makes his Mollywood debut. PS Rafique’s script will be shot in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The actor also has Shaji Kailas’ Alone, which will be released on January 26, 2023, the 4K version of Spadikam, which will be released on February 9, 2023, and his own directorial debut, Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, which will be released in March 2023.

Mohanlal is expected to complete work on Jeethu Joseph’s Ram duology, with the first installment arriving in the first half of the year. By mid-2023, the superstar will begin filming on Prithviraj’s directorial, Empuraan. The second installment of the Lucifer franchise will focus on Mohanlal’s character Ab’ram Khureshi aka Stephen Nedumpally’s past and present. The actor has also signed on for Vrushaba, a big-budget Telugu-Malayalam period action film that is set to begin production by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Hombale Films is set to release Salaar, directed by KGF, in 2023. The film, which stars Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, will begin its next schedule in Hyderabad before heading to Italy for a two-week shoot in the first half of 2023.
