Sajeev Pillai was the director in the first schedule but was replaced by M. Padmakumar. Based on the medieval fair called Mamankam, which was celebrated every 12 years between 800 AD and 1755 AD, the story of the film is supposedly about a brave warrior (played by Megastar Mammootty) of Malabar and his loyal soldiers. Meeting all the expectations of the audience and delivering, even more, the magnum opus, ‘Mamnagam’ has unveiled the teaser! Giving an outline on the Mamankam festival that took back in AD 1695, the teaser begins with the introduction, where a person, narrates the history and relevance of the festival to a group of foreigners. The dialogue “This is the only one such spectacular view in this world, which you won’t forget upon watching once,” in fact is applicable for the teaser too. The teaser is packed with realistic spectacular sets, magnificent visuals, the fearless warriors, the youngest boy in the history of Mamangam and the bravest and the phenomenal warrior in the history. And it is almost hard to believe that the bravest warrior who rides into the screen is essayed by a 68-year old actor Mammootty. Helmed by M Padmakumar, the movie is a period saga and narrates the story of the warriors of Valluvanad, who plotted to defeat the Zamorin rulers. Venu Kunnappilly is bankrolling the project under the banner of Kavya Films. Ace cinematographer, Manoj Pillai is cranking the lens and Shankar Ramakrishnan will be crafting the adapted screenplay and dialogues. Made on a whopping budget of Rs 50 crore, ‘Mamangam’ is touted to be one of the biggest films in Mammootty’s career. Also, a multilingual, actor Mammootty plays the lead role of a fiery ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) and Unni Mukundan will be seen in the pivotal role of Chandroth Panicker. The movie tells the story of the historical Mamankam festival. Former Baseball star Prachi Tehlan is playing the female lead while Kaniha and Anu Sithara will be seen in important characters. After ‘Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja’ this is Mammootty’s second period film. M Jayachandran will be handling the music and Mohandas has been roped in as the art director. B-town music composer Sanchit Balhara is handling the background score and the action sequences are choreographed by Sham Kaushal.
