Maharashtra govt to warns Patanjali; The sale of counterfeit drugs is not allowed

The Maharashtra government has warned the Patanjali Ayurveda Company led by Baba Ramdev to launch a counterfeit drug called COVID Disease. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said that the sale of counterfeit drugs would not be allowed in the state.
Patanjali’s drug was released with the claim of ‘COVID immunity’. The minister also said that the National Institute of Medical Science will find out if there has been a clinical trial of the drug labeled ‘coronil’. The Union Home Ministry had banned advertisements of this drug by Patanjali.

Maharashtra minister warns Ramdev on Coronil, says the state will not allow the sale of spurious medicines. Amid the ongoing controversy over Ramdev’s company Patanjali Ayurveda introducing “cure” for coronavirus infection, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has warned the yoga guru, saying the state will not allow the sale of spurious medicines.
“An abundant warning to @yogrishiramdev that Maharashtra won’t allow the sale of spurious medicines,” Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh wrote on Twitter. The Maharashtra Home Minister said the National Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur will find out whether clinical trials of Patanjali Ayurveda’s ‘Coronil’ were done at all.

Patanjali Ayurveda, while presenting ‘Coronil’ medicine on Tuesday had claimed that it has found a cure for coronavirus infection. Hours after the launch of Coronil, the Union Ayush Ministry had asked the firm to provide the details, telling it to stop advertising it till the issue is examined.
Patanjali Ayurved Ltd was asked to provide details of the name and composition of the medicines being claimed for coronavirus infection treatment, information on sites or hospitals where the research study was conducted and the protocols followed, besides details of the Institutional Ethics Committee clearance and CTRI registration among others.
According to an official directive issued earlier, false claims and publishing approval of research study or product manufacturing about Covid-19 control, writing Covid-19 related claims, and name of the ministry of Ayush on the labels and containers tantamount to the contravention of legal provisions.
