Kunchacko Boban Chaaver Movie Review

In the politically charged region of Kannur, the narratives have long been shaped by a harrowing mix of knives, bombs, and tragic murders. The recent cinematic offering, ‘Chaaver , directed by Tinu Pappachan and brought to life by actor-director Joy Mathew, delves into the deep-seated rivalries that have plagued Kannur and Thalassery for years. The essence of this film lies not just in the stories of the deceased and the perpetrators, but in the enigmatic power plays behind the scenes, known only to a select few. Kunchacko Boban and Arjun Ashokan, portraying the central characters, bring the essence of the film to life. Manoj KU’s impactful portrayal fills the movie, leaving an indelible mark. The performances by Antony Varghese and Sangeeta, particularly after Shyamala’s thoughtful and notable role, will undoubtedly leave the audience pondering long after they exit the theater.

‘Chaaver ‘ prompts contemplation on a significant question—were the individuals who lost their lives in the name of political rivalry merely victims, unknowingly playing their roles without understanding the reasons behind their demise? The film serves as a mirror to the tumultuous past of Kannur and Thalassery, challenging the audience to question the motives of the perpetrators and the true nature of the victims. Joy Mathew, deeply entrenched in Kerala’s political arena, weaves a compelling narrative infused with political undertones and stark truths. While some elements portrayed in ‘Chaaver ‘ may be localized to Kannur and not readily discernible beyond the boundaries of Malabar, the movie holds a trove of hints that resonate with those closely following the complex landscape of Kerala politics. In summary, ‘Chaaver ‘ unravels the hidden layers of Kannur’s political saga, shedding light on the tangled web of power, politics, and tragedy that has defined the region for decades. Through its lens, audiences are granted a glimpse into a world where political motives blur the lines between victim and assailant, ultimately leaving us with unsettling questions about the fabric of society and the lives lost in the name of power.
