Kerala ranks third in the country in active COVID cases. About 67,061 people are being treated for COVID in the state. The number of cases has been on the rise in the state for the past few days. For the first time in the last day, the daily figure crossed eight thousand. 8830 people were diagnosed with the disease last day. Of these, 7695 cases were transmitted through contact.

Kerala lags far behind other Indian states in disease-free rate. The cure rate is 65.4%. So far, 1,28,224 people have been cured. At the same time, it is reassuring to know that the mortality rate is the lowest (0.04%). So far 742 COVID deaths have been reported in Kerala. Maharashtra and Karnataka are ahead of Kerala in the number of active patients. There are 2,60,363 patients in Maharashtra and 1,07,737 in Karnataka. Maharashtra, one of the worst affected states, has so far confirmed more than 13.66 lakh cases. Twenty-two states have seen a decline in the number of active cases.

While the all-India figure for the proportion of active cases is 15.42 percent, Kerala’s is 33 percent. Though the national average was also 33 per cent on August 1, then the graph of active cases since then has been on a decline, in contrast to Kerala’s northbound graph.
