Kantara’s OTT released date pushed further-Know why?

A few weeks ago, Kantara’s well-known song, Varaha Roopam, was said to be a plagiarism of the Malayalam band Thaikkudam Bridge’s composition Navarasam by music director B Ajaneesh Loknath. The makers were forbidden from uploading the song to streaming services or playing it live without permission from Thaikkudam Bridge after the band threatened to pursue legal redress. The band later obtained injunction orders from two Kerala courts. However, Varaha Roopam continues to appear in the movie currently showing in theatres.

The rumor going around the business is that Hombale Films is in talks with Thaikkudam Bridge and Mathrubhumi Kappa TV to settle the issue as soon as possible. Ajaneesh has been described as saying that while he was inspired by Navarasam, he did not copy it and that the similarities were caused by the use of the same ragas in both songs since the controversy first surfaced. Rishab Shetty, who is both a director and a performer, has also stated that Varaha Roopam did not have a copyright issue. Varaha Roopam is not the only song that has controversy around it, incidentally. The Rebel song is similar to Mundoor Madan from Ayyappanum Koshiyum, while the Singara Siri song is purportedly “influenced” by the Marathi song Apsara Aali.

Netizens believe that the song would have gone undetected if Kantara had stayed the small-scale Kannada film that it was intended to be because the film team did not anticipate that it would become the pan-Indian success that it is now.

However, it is currently being reported that Kantara’s OTT debut would be postponed because the injunction ruling covers all forms of streaming. The movie was rumored to have an Amazon Prime Video release date of November 18, with the initial two weeks perhaps being reserved for rentals only. Given that Kantara will now have a lengthier run in theatres, several internet users think that this postponement is best for the film crew. The film, which is celebrating 50-days at the box office is still going strong on 300+ screens across Karnataka.
