Jio Cinemas Acquires HBO Contents

Jio Cinema has come with good news for those who are worried that they have missed all the series on HBO halfway. Reliance Jio, the country’s leading telecom service provider, has signed a new agreement with Warner Brothers. As per the current agreement, all HBO and Warner Bros. content in India will now be streamed through the JioCinema app. Reliance’s Viacom18 and Warner Bros. Discovery announced a multi-year deal last day. The new contract will be effective from May. GeoCinema will be the new home for Warner Bros. and India’s catalog of TV series and movies. Unlike Disney Plus and Hotstar, all Warner Bros. productions will be streamed directly through the JioCinema app. Currently, HBO Max does not have a dedicated streaming service in India.

The new news comes at a time when HBO content has been forgotten in the country as the contract with Hotstar has ended. The new deal made yesterday includes House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Euphoria, The White Lotus, and the fourth and final season of Succession. Clement Schwebig, President, of Warner Bros. Discovery (India) says, “We are delighted to partner with Viacom18 to bring premium HBO, Max Original, and Warner Bros. content to local audiences. Warner Bros. and Discovery brands have many fans in the country. Earlier there were reports that JioCinema will pay like other OTT platforms. The report points to the increase in viewership for IPL 2023 as evidence of GeoCinema’s growth. Apart from live streaming of IPL, web series may also be newly included. It is hinted that if you want to use Jio Cinema after IPL, you will have to pay. The aim of this move is to increase the revenue of the company.
