The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday asked Tesla Inc to recall 158,000 cars. This list includes Tesla’s Model S and Model X cars. Actually, touchscreen display is not working in these vehicles, due to which the safety risk is increasing.
Tesla was requested by an auto safety agency to conduct a temporary shutdown of the Model S vehicles built between 2012 and 2018 and the Model X from 2016 to 2018 after conducting a safety check in November. Because many defects related to motor vehicle safety regulations have been found in these trains.
Tesla has not yet responded to this request, but the company must respond to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ) by 27 January . If Tesla does not agree to the withdrawal of the vehicles, it will have to inform the agency of its decision. The NHTSA agency says that several safety issues are arising due to touchscreen failure in which the rearview / backup camera image is damaged.
NHTSA said that Tesla has attempted to mitigate some issues in its vehicles. The company has implemented several over-the-air updates to its vehicles. But according to the agency these updates are insufficient. The company should further work on updates related to these vehicles. NHTSA also said that under the law, vehicle manufacturers are required to recall or recall vehicles to address safety-related issues.
