In a momentous event for Indian sports, the 141st session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is scheduled to take place in Mumbai from October 15 to 17 this year. This marks India’s return to hosting the IOC after a gap of 40 years. Preceding the session, the IOC Executive Board will assemble on October 12 and 13. The inaugural ceremony is set for October 14 at the Jio World Center in Mumbai.Expressing gratitude for the honor bestowed upon India, Nita Ambani stated, “After 40 years of waiting, the Olympic Movement is back in India. I thank the International Olympic Committee for giving India the honor of hosting the IOC session in Mumbai in 2023.
“The decision to hold the 141st IOC session in India was finalized during the 139th IOC session held in Beijing in February 2022. Abhinav Bindra, an Olympic gold medalist, along with IOC member Nita Ambani, IOA president Narinder Batra, and sports minister Anurag Thakur presented the proposal for India’s hosting rights. Mumbai secured the bid with an overwhelming 75 votes in favor and only one against.During this significant session, the final announcement of the sports program for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is anticipated. Excitingly, sports like cricket, break-dancing, baseball/softball, flag football, karate, kickboxing, squash, and motorsport may potentially be added to the program, underscoring the evolving landscape of Olympic sports.
