Reportedly, Coach Igor Stimac will not accompany the Indian football team for the Asian Games. This decision comes amidst an ongoing dispute between the All India Football Federation and ISL clubs concerning player availability.Stimac is insistent on having the best players in the team. According to the regulations, each country must have an Under-23 team with three senior players. Indian captain Sunil Chhetri, defender Sandesh Jhingan, and goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu were initially chosen. However, they are unlikely to join the selected squad for the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Unfortunately, all three experienced players will miss the Asian Games due to ISL teams’ reluctance to release their players ahead of the upcoming season, commencing on September 21. India is scheduled to compete against the hosts, China, in the Hangzhou Games on September 19.
