Hindusthani musician Rajan Mishra passes away

Hindusthani musician Rajan Mishra has died due to the Covid plague. He died in Delhi on Sunday. Covid-19 was admitted to St. Stephen’s Hospital in Delhi after suffering a heart attack. Singers Pandit Rajan Mishra and his younger brother Sajan Mishra from the Benares Gharana have been performing in various venues in India for decades. The two were known as Rajan Sajan Mishra. Sajan Mishra passed away in 2014.

The brothers have won the Padma Bhushan Award, the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, and the Gandharva National Award for their Khayal style of Indian classical singing. Born in 1951, Rajan Mishra spent his childhood in Varanasi. Along with his brother, Rajan Mishra trained in music under his father Hanuman Prasad Mishra, grandfather’s brother Bade Ram Das Ji Mishra, and uncle Sarangi artist Gopal Prasad Mishra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences on his death. “I mourn the death of Pandit Rajan Mishra Ji, who left his mark on the world of classical music. The demise of Mishraji, who was associated with the Banaras Gharana, is an irreparable loss to the art and music world. My condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti! ” The Prime Minister tweeted.

Senior singer Lata Mangeshkar also paid homage to him. “Pandit Rajan Mishra, a talented classical singer and Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner, has passed away. It’s sad to hear that. My condolences to his family, “she tweeted.
