Heavy Rainfall Hits State Yellow Alert Issued For 10 Districts

The Central Meteorological Department has forewarned about the likelihood of widespread rain in central and southern regions of Kerala today and tomorrow. Yellow alert notifications have been issued for ten districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. The alert extends to Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki for the following day as well.The presence of a cyclonic storm over Tamil Nadu is intensifying the rainfall. The Central Meteorological Department has also mentioned the possibility of light rain at isolated places in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, and Malappuram in the coming hours. Despite the weather conditions, fishing activities in the Kerala and Karnataka coasts remain unaffected, with a caution against fishing near Lakshadweep shores. Wind gusts of 40 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 55 kmph are anticipated along Lakshadweep coasts today and tomorrow. Similar gusts are also expected over south Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining Comoros region.

Additionally, the Central Water Commission has raised an orange alert at the Vellaikadav station on the Karamana river in Thiruvananthapuram, emphasizing the need for caution, especially for those residing near the coast.Weather observers note that Pathanamthitta, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, and Malappuram districts are experiencing the heaviest rainfall, while other districts are anticipated to receive relatively lower amounts. These rainy days are characteristic of the pre-Libra season, as noted by weather experts.
