Former South African captain and batsman Faf Duplessis has retired from Test cricket. Duplessis, 36, has announced his retirement after the series was called off due to Kovid’s decision to retire after the Test series against Australia.
He said in a post on Instagram that he was retiring from Test cricket but would continue in ODIs and Twenty20s but would work harder to lead the team to victory in the T20 World Cup. Duplessis says he would not have believed anyone who said he would play cricket for the country or become the country’s captain 15 years ago and that he was retiring with pleasure.
Duplessis made his Test debut in November 2012 against Australia. The last match was against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Duplessis has scored a total of 55 runs in four innings in two Tests. Duplessis has scored 4163 runs in 69 matches, including 10 centuries and 21 fifties. The average is 40.02. His best score was 199 in the series against Sri Lanka. When Abd de Villiers stepped down in 2017, South Africa captain Duplessis led the team in 36 matches. Duplessis plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
