Fire at Srisailam Power Station: Power plant fire in Telangana; 9 people are trapped
Nine people were trapped inside a building on fire at a hydropower plant in Telangana. The fire broke out at the Srisailam Hydroelectric Power Station on the Telangana-Andhra border. The incident took place around 10.30 pm on Thursday.
The fire broke out after an explosion in the fourth unit. 10 people trapped in the fire were rescued. Nine more were reported trapped. Authorities said 19 people were on duty at the time of the accident. The National Disaster Response Force is continuing its efforts to rescue them. Six of those released were injured. They were admitted to the hospital. The preliminary conclusion is that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock at the accident and said the situation was being assessed. He also said that all those trapped should be brought out safely.
