Fans of Mani Ratnam are disappointed after the release of new song

Ponniyin-Selvan

Fans have been asking the director why the song was not included in the final cut, ever since the makers of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan released the deleted video song, Sol Sol from the film. The creators of PS: I previously disclosed the impending release of the unheard song Sol Sol, and today they posted the complete song on their social media accounts.

Madras Talkies shared the song and captioned it, “A symphony for the ears, a treat for the eyes! Here is the video song of the beautiful #Chol from #PS1 https://youtu.be/F567r4GkjGY #PonniyinSelvan1 #ManiRatnam @arrahman @LycaProductions @Tipsofficial @tipsmusicsouth @trishtrashers #SobhitaDhulipala (sic).” The song features the dreamy dancing of Kadambur princess Vanathi (Sobhita) and Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai (Trisha). Though the song has generated a lot of enthusiasm among Trisha’s supporters, it appears that they are miffed at Mani Ratnam for leaving the song out of the movie. Here are some tweet samples.

Ponniyin Selvan has since gone on to become one of the highest-grossing south Indian movies that were produced in 2022. Mani Ratnam’s film is an adaptation of Kalki’s five-part novel of the same name, Ponniyin Selvan. Vikram plays Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan in the two-part movie; Trisha plays Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai; Jayam Ravi plays Ponniyin Selvan Arulmozhi Varman; Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Queen of Pazhuvoor Nandini; and Karthi plays Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan. Following the illness and bedrest of the reigning monarch Sundara Chola, the plot centers on the struggle for the Chola throne.

The film was jointly bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. Music for the film is by AR Rahman, art direction by Thotta Tharani, cinematography by Ravi Varman and editing by Sreekar Prasad.
