The year 2023 has begun, and many of us cinephiles are eagerly anticipating future films. We must not, however, forget what a nightmare 2022 was. We hardly had time to see a film that could be called a “masterpiece.” We saw several Bollywood disasters, from Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan to Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus. As a result, it would be fair to state that certain Bollywood performers are going through a hard phase in their careers. However, it is not only the Bollywood actors that are struggling. Many South superstars have been going through the same thing. The treasures from the south have also failed at the box office, with back-to-back disasters.

If we’re talking about south superstars, how can we not mention Rajinikanth’s name first? He has worked for more than 50 years. To call him the finest of the best would be an understatement. His previous two films, however, have been major flops. Darbar, which was released in 2020, and Annaatthe, which was released in 2021, both failed to sway the audience. We hope that his upcoming 2023 film Jailer succeeds well in this new year. His film, Jailer, is set to be released on April 14, 2023.
Chiranjeevi is without a doubt a Tollywood industry jewel. We all remember how successful his 2017 film Khaidi No. 150 was. However, he has not released a new hit since that year. His previous three films, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), Acharya (2022), and Godfather (2022), all bombed at the box office. Nonetheless, we expect Waltair Veerayya, his upcoming 2023 film, to be more than just wonderful.
Mohanlal, 62, is one of the most famous and well-known performers in Malayalam cinema. He has given out an insane number of hits. His 2019 picture Lucifer created a buzz among his admirers that is still going on. However, he has failed to make an impression since then. Alone and Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure will now feature this south celebrity. We hope that he makes a strong comeback with these two films.
Prabhas has become one of the most expensive actors of all time with the massive success of both Baahubali movies. However, it is also true that, since those films, he has consistently delivered flops. Whether it’s 2019 Saaho or 2022 Radhe Shyam, his allure has waned. Adipurush, his next 2023 film, has garnered a lot of criticism for its teaser. It will be interesting to watch how the film does on the big screen.
