It was the biggest disappointment for the big screen audience when the theaters closed in fear of COVID. Those who want a theatrical experience will have to wait even longer to get it. But a word of consolation has now come out. Drive-in cinema, which is not so familiar to Malayalees, is now coming to Kerala. The facility is being set up in Kerala by Sunset Cinema Club, India’s leading open-air cinema chain.

The first screening will take place on October 4 at the Le Meridien Hotel in Kochi. The Bollywood superhit film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara will be screened. Tickets can be booked on the official site of the Sunset Cinema Club. Sunset Cinema Club also has drive-ins in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, and Dehradun.

The social experience of watching a movie is only a memory in the COVID situation where theaters have been closed for months. Movie lovers are content to watch the new OTT release on their own phones or smart TVs instead. In the meanwhile, many people have seen the news about the ‘Drive-In’ movie screening system operating in some other cities in India as well. Drive-in movies are a way to get in your car and watch a movie on the big screen in a car at a pre-determined time in an open space. Now such an exhibition facility is coming to Kerala as well.
