Covishield for Rs 400 for states and Rs 600 for private hospitals; Serum Institute with decisive decision

The Serum Institute of India (SII) has said it will provide Rs 400 crore to state governments for the Kovid-19 vaccine. Private hospitals can pay up to Rs 600 for a single dose of vaccine. The SII’s decision comes after the country decided to vaccinate everyone over the age of 18 from May 1.

According to the Serum Institute, Kovshield sells vaccines at a lower price compared to other countries. Russian-made wax and Chinese wax sell for Rs 750. The price of the American-made wax is Rs 1,500, the company said in a statement.

Fifty percent of the production will be earmarked for the central government and the rest for the state and private hospitals, said Adar Poonawalla, head of serum. The vaccine will be available in large quantities by the end of July. The monthly capacity of production will increase by 15 to 20 percent. Production will accelerate by the end of May. It will rise to 40 percent after July. He added that higher doses can be given every month.
