The court acquitted all accused in the bomb blast case of minister EP Jayarajan. Thalassery Additional District and Sessions Court – Judgment

The important verdict was made 20 years after the incident. There were 38 RSS-BJP activists, including Shaji, Vinesh, Selvaraj, Aravindan, Ratheesh and Sajeevan from Koteri.

Twenty-one of them, Vinayan, was later killed in a political attack. Vinayan’s brother Santosh, the 20th accused, succumbed to his illness two months ago. The remaining 36 defendants faced trial.

The incident occurred on December 2, 2000 at Panur Elangot. The bomber was on his way back from attending the martyrdom of EP Jayarajan, then CPM district secretary.

The accused were acquitted in the absence of evidence. According to the chargesheet, the car carrying EP Jayarajan was bombed. But the prosecution could not prove it. Minister KK Shailaja was the 13th witness in the teacher case. But the minister did not elaborate. Advocates Sunil Kumar and Adv P Premarajan appeared for the accused.
