Basil Joseph is happy for the victory of Minnal Murali at the Asian Academy Awards 2022

Basil Joseph is one of the best directors working in Malayalam cinema today. With his most recent film, Minnal Murali, which got a direct OTT release on Netflix, the creative director gained enormous fame. Tovino Thomas plays the lead character in the film, which is the first domestic superhero movie ever made by the Malayalam cinema industry. By taking home the Best Director prize at the renowned Asian Academy Awards 2022, which were held in Singapore last week, Basil Joseph made Mollywood proud.

It’s interesting to note that the accomplished director attended the Asian Academy Awards with his close friend and the star of Minnal Murali, Tovino Thomas, as well as the cast and crew. Basil Joseph is seen cutting the cake with his team as they applauded him in the photos the actor posted on his official Instagram account. According to rumors, Basil, who is also a talented actor, will appear alongside Tovino Thomas in a forthcoming film that is presently under production.

The Minnal Murali actor sent a poignant statement for his close friend Basil Joseph in addition to posting photos of the celebrations on Instagram. “As a friend, as an actor who worked with him, and as a co-actor, I’m extremely happy and proud of Basil Joseph’s immense growth,” wrote Tovino Thomas in his post. “A serious post about @ibasiljoseph on my timeline seems dramatic. But let it be,” he added.

The superhero movie centers on two regular individuals from Kurukkan Moola, a made-up village, who gain abilities after being struck by the same lighting on a particular night. To save the world, Jaison, a tailor endowed with superpowers, assumes the persona of the fictitious Minnal Murali. But Shibu, the mistreated immigrant worker who has supernatural abilities, takes a darker turn. In the movie, Tovino played Jaison, nicknamed Minnal Murali, while Guru Somasundaram played Shibu very flawlessly.

It is official that there will be a second part in the Minnal Murali franchise. The second part the Minnal Murali is expected to go on floors by 2025 after Basil Joseph wraps up his upcoming directorial venture which reportedly features Pranav Mohanlal in the lead role.  He is also discussing a future collaboration with Fahadh Faasil.
