Assistant Teacher Recruitment, Paving the way for posting of 5856 teachers

Now the hearing of this case will be held on August 28 after the summer vacation. After verification of educational records, appointment letters were distributed to 1796 and 4060 candidates in two phases on December 30, 2023 and January 7, 2024, respectively. However, after hearing the petition filed by Archana Rai, the Supreme Court had put a stay on the posting on January 9.

What is the zero district dispute? Advertisement for 12460 teacher recruitment was released on 15 December 2016. There was not a single vacancy in 24 out of 75 districts of the state. According to Teacher Recruitment Rules 1981, there was a provision for the appointment of only those trainees in any district from where the applicant had undergone training. However, Secretary of Basic Education Council Sanjay Sinha issued a circular allowing the candidates of those districts to apply from other districts where the number of posts was zero. The first counselling took place on 16 March 2017, but in the meantime, after the change of government, recruitment was stopped on 23 March 2017.

On 16 April 2018, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was permitted to start the recruitment. On May 1, 2018, the Chief Minister gave appointment letters to about 6512 candidates from 51 districts. Of these, only 5990 had taken charge. On the other hand, the dispute arising over giving appointment letters to the selected candidates of 24 districts with zero vacancies was pending in the High Court. On the orders of the High Court, appointment letters were issued to 5856 candidates in two phases against the remaining 6470 posts.
