Selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar will meet Indian cricket team coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma to discuss plans for the ODI World Cup starting on October 5. Currently, Salil Angola, a member of the selection committee, is with the Indian team in the West Indies. Angola will return after the Test series. BCCI informed that Agarkar will join the team before the start of ODI matches. Ajit Agarkar has not been able to interact with the Indian team in person after being selected as the chairman of the selection committee. Agarkar, Dravid, and Rohit will discuss matters including World Cup team selection. The first step is to prepare a shortlist of 20 players for the World Cup. The final squad will be announced after checking the injury and fitness issues. They will also discuss the generational change of the team.
The future of pacer Jasprit Bumrah will also be discussed as he continues his training and recovery process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. There are indications that Bumrah may play in the Ireland series with the Indian A team. But the NCA Sports Science and Medical Unit has not yet issued the RTP (Return to Play) certificate to Bumrah. Only if he gets this, the pacer who is a native of Ahmedabad can return to the international team. The team will be coached by NCA chief VVS Laxman for the Ireland series. This is to rest Rahul Dravid after the West Indies tour. Earlier, Dravid, who headed the NCA, coached the Indian A team while Ravi Shastri was the senior team coach.
