The historical Telugu film ‘Narthanashala’, which was released in the year 1963, featured Telugu cinema’s legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, actress Savitri and actor SV Ranga Rao in lead roles. It is still considered to be an unforgettable, classic cult cinema for Telugu Industry.
Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna had dreamed of recreating this film in 2004 and Narthanasaala would have been the first directorial venture for Nandamuri Balakrishna. Similarly, the film was launched in March 2004 at Ramoji Film City.
In the movie, Nandamuri Nalakrishna had to play the role of Arjuna, Brihannale and Keechaka, actor Sreehari had to play the role of Bheema, actor Sai Kumar had to play the role of Duryodhana, Sarath Babu had to play the role of Dharmaraya, Actress Soundarya had to play the role of Draupadi which was played by Legendary Actress Savitri in 1963, and actress Asin had to play the role of Uttare.
The film was shot for a few days in the month of March, but it was shelved due to the sudden demise of Actress Soundarya in the same year.
Talking about the film in 2014, Balakrishna stated that “I can’t imagine anybody else to play the role of Draupadi other than Soundarya, so we didn’t plan to revive it again..”
But tomorrow on the occasion of Balakrishna’s birthday, he’s giving a surprise for his fans by releasing the song which he sang for Narthanasaala movie and he will also release a 20-minute video of Narthanasaala movie which was shot in 2004
