The Malayalam movie Manjummel Boys, which was praised all over the world, entered the 200 crore club globally. The film, which has become a Malayalam industry hit, is yet to end its box office run. Manjummel Boys earned more than 50 crores in Tamil Nadu. This is the first time a film from Malayalam has achieved such an achievement. The film is getting great acceptance outside Kerala. It is reported that Manjummel Boys have won around 11 crores from Karnataka. The film was directed by Chidambaram.
Soubin Shahir, Srinath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathy, Lal junior, Chanthu Saleemkumar, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Deepak Parambol, Khalid Rahman, Arun Kurien and Vishnu Raghu have played the central characters in ‘Manjumel Boys’. The theme of the film is that a group of friends travel to Kodaikanal from Manjummel in Kochi and the unexpected situations they have to face from there. The 2 hour and 15 minute film is set in the Guna Caves, also known as the Devil’s Kitchen in Kodaikanal. The song ‘Kanmani Anpot Kathalan’ in the 1992 Kamal Haasan film ‘Guna’ and the movie was shot in the ‘Devil’s Kitchen’ cave. After the release of ‘Guna’, this cave came to be known as ‘Guna Caves’.
‘Manjummel Boys’ is a movie based on the true experience of the youths who went from Ernakulam Manjummel who rescued their friend who was trapped in Gunakev in Kotekanal in 2006. Produced by Babu Shahir, Soubin Shahir and Shaun Antony, the film is produced by Parava Films and Shree Gokulam Movies. All India distribution of the film, which was completed in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, was handled by Dream Big Films on behalf of Shree Gokulam Movies. UK distribution rights were also acquired by RFT Films.
